６．The Era of Tsukuriyama Tomb (Kofun Period)
Located in Okayama’s Shinjo Town, Tsukuriyama Tomb is a zenpo koenfun that boasts a total length of about 300 meters, its scale only second to the tomb belonging to the emperor of that time.
In the middle of the Kofun Period in which this mounded tomb was built, about 1600 years ago, various technologies were handed down from the Korean Peninsula. One example would be a blue-grey baked ceramic known as Sue ware. Kibi’s oldest Sue kiln is the Okugatani Kiln Site, found in Soja City. Korean style pottery was also excavated at a dwelling site with an indoor hearth at Site in Okayama City, nearby Tsukuriyama Tomb.
The fact that many people from overseas were living in this region is even shown in later literature. It is thought that in this background lies the existence of a tribal king like the one buried at Tsukuriyama Tomb.
